BEST MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

The best medical university should have following characteristics:

1. Years of experience in providing medical education
The institution must be minimum of 50 years old or older, since it takes almost that much of time for an institution of higher education to grow, mature and become deeply rooted in society.
The history of the Tver State Medical Academy opens up in 1902 when the courses for dental students were arranged. In 1936 the Leningrad Dental Institute was founded. In 1954 by the decision of the Soviet government the Institute was transferred from Leningrad to the city of Kalinin. In 1986 the Institute was awarded the Order of People's Friendship. In 1994 after the renaming of Kalinin to Tver, the Institute was also renamed and got the status of the Academy. For more than 100 years Tver State Medical Academy has been playing a leading role in the development of medical science and training of medical practitioners and scientists.

2. Teaching hospitals.
A medical university must have several of its own well established, modem teaching hospitals. If the university does not have these, then the students are put in to a very disadvantageous position. The lack of clinical teaching facilities of its own should raise a red flag about that university because the scope of education that can be provided is greatly limited.
The TSMA covers all the 8 big hospitals,5 Maternity homes,Tver Divisional hospitals, which has isolated rooms for infectious disease, Tuberculosis and cancer more than 30 polyclinics and maternity consultancieswhere medical students gain exposure and practical skills required for their future profession.

3. Small class size.
Small group classes are a must for medical students to interact closely with the professors and teaching medical staff.
TVER STATE MEDICAL ACADEMY has a class size of 15 students.

4. Ample Research Facilities.
Good research facilities and programs go hand in hand with a good medical college. Some new medical teaching establishments have research facilities just for the sake of saying. This kind of institution cannot be called a research-oriented facility.
A good medical teaching university must have real research programs and must have opportunities for research in each of its teaching departments. This type of situation would give the "Future Doctors" important chances to be exposed to many multi-disciplinary research projects.
Scientific research programmes are carried out at all Departments of TVER STATE MEDICAL ACADEMY. The researches carried out at the acedemy are included in national programmes like the State Scientific and Technical Programme of the Russian Federation and the Population Health Programme.
The research programmes conducted at the academy have participated in six exhibitions conducted in relation to the National Economic Achievements, three of which were national. The Academy has been awarded four silver and two bronze medals. A gold medal was awarded for a combined research carried out by the Academy and the Tver State Technical University.

5. Recognition and Accreditation. To qualify initially on an international level the University must be approved, recognized, and listed by the World Health Organization (WHO), currently headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Almost all member nations currently go by this standard as an initial requirement for permitting medical graduates to meet the license requirements in the member nation.
The school must be recognized and accredited by the government of the country where the school is located. Fully government-supported schools are in better shape for worldwide recognition than privately managed schools.
The Tver State Medical Academy has been recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education to train medical professionals for foreign countries, having highly professional teaching staff. Today the Academy is a big scientific establishment where fundamental, applied and methodological research is carried out. The Academy is wide international contacts; it is collaborating with the University of SAAR (Germany), OSNABRUCKS SOCIETY (Germany), and SIENA (Italy).
